GIBRALTAR

You will probably land at Malaga airport. In that case I would recommend you to take one day and night to discover the city. Malaga is rather a big city, agreable and clean with a nice weather all the winter long.

If you follow my advice please stay at the Miramar Grand Hotel which has been recently refurbished and which is full of marble: balconies, stairs, floors bathrooms…And you will be nicely welcomed !

Take a room with sea view. Other rooms on the Atrium are ok and nice but it is frustrating not to enjoy the magnificent seaview. Anyhow the terrasse on the last floor will give you the opportunity to take nice pictures and to enjoy the view from the roof top.

There is a Center rather close from the hotel but the main center with its pedestrian area (all of marble) is rather far for peorple who don’t like so much walking. Taxis are ok...

That area is fine but nothing extraordinary

Leaving Malaga for Gibraltar you will take the sea road and enjoy nice views from time to time. You might stop at Marbella which i never liked so much or go shopping at Porto Banyuls (a bit tacky but most of the luxury brands are there)

Arriving at Gibraltar you will cross borders before entering in the British Empire.

The Rock is impressive and big .. No wonder the Brits wont leave it.

I recommend the Rock Hotel: nice rooms and beautifully located.

Carefull no checking in before 3 pm and out before 11 am!

The restaurant is nice, good and well posted. ASk a table at the Terrace.

Have diner there with the sunset!  Boats in the light are beautifull….

Before diner go in the city. Nothing special ; some bars and restaurants..

They dont look too clean but you may take the risk of a bloody Mary (diificult to make it wrong)

Tomorrow you will dicover the rock with me.

What to do?

It’s very simple: you step out of the hotel, walk down, and discover a charming little park where, on the left, you can visit a small zoo with a few rare species and a lovely setting. I can’t stress enough how charming this little zoo is!

Continue on and you’ll arrive at the cable car.

It was under maintenance during my stay, but that’s no problem because you’ll take a taxi—likely with other tourists—and it will take you on a tour of the Rock.

There are beautiful views here and there. Take a look at a plaque commemorating Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s visit, and then comes the long-awaited encounter with the monkeys of Gibraltar:  cute, friendly, and greedy—but avoid making eye contact or staring them down.

You can feed them and take some great photos.

In fact, Gibraltar is all about the Rock,

the View, the Monkeys. AND I absolutely loved the sunset over the peaceful bay!

Once you’ve done all that, you can head out. My advice is to take refuge for a day or two in Tarifa. We stayed at a somewhat unusual hotel: lush vegetation, a pool, a beach, and a beach restaurant—all with a Thai vibe. The hotel is called Hurricane: the food in the evening was quite decent. The whole place has a bit of a British colonial feel; in fact, I found myself feeling quite out of place (in a good way).

You can take a stroll through the small town, which is pretty quiet in winter, and head to the beach, which is absolutely beautiful. You’ll see kitesurfers in action and enjoy a drink at the charming REMIGIO Bloody Mary again.

Then head back to Málaga

or, if you have time, visit Córdoba, Granada, or Seville. All of Andalusia is stunning.
